Chrome vanadium (Cr-V)is a low-alloy steel with chromium and vanadium added. It’s heat-treated to high hardness and is the standard for most professional hand tools — wrenches, sockets, pliers. It offers excellent strength-to-weight and resists bending under heavy torque.

Stainless steelcontains at least 10.5% chromium, which forms a protective oxide layer. It resists corrosion but is generally softer and more brittle than Cr-V when hardened. It’s the go-to for marine, food, and medical applications — and for consumer tools where rust is the main complaint.
